| NH Architecture | University of Melbourne Competition | NH Architecture in collaboration with Berlin based Sauerbruch Hutton was one of six finalists short-listed in the international competition for the design of a new landmark building for the Faculty of Architecture Building and Planning at the University of Melbourne. The finalists were selected from 133 submissions from design firms in 15 countries. The University of Melbourne’s aim was to establish a benchmark for environmental design at its Parkville Campus - a new building which would offer rich learning opportunities for the students. The new building will consist of educational facilities for staff and students, with a total floor area of nearly 18,000m2 and value of $110 million. NH Architecture’s response to the brief to create a vibrant educational environment was to design a building which aims to activate its central position within the campus. Public functions including a library, exhibition spaces, theatres, and cafes are set in an open ground plane promoting pedestrian linkages through and around the site and enhancing the public interface of the faculty. | |
